SPSS Installation Guide

IBM SPSS Statistics software is made available for academic and educational use through the Hasan Kalyoncu University license pool. The licensing model is based on a campus-internal license server.

1. Who Can Use It?

  • HKU academic staff (research, teaching, thesis supervision).
  • HKU administrative staff (for institutional reporting and analysis).
  • Undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students (for coursework and thesis research).
License Type: The HKU SPSS license operates under the “Concurrent Network License” model. The number of simultaneous users is limited.

2. Download and License Server Details

Installation File A Google Drive link is shared upon request via DESK.

Port 27000
Off-Campus Use VPN connection is mandatory.

3. Request Process

  1. Open a request via desk.hku.edu.tr under the “Software License Request > SPSS” category.
  2. In the request form, specify the device type (Windows / Mac), intended use, and your supervisor information.
  3. The BIM team will check availability in the license pool and share the download link and installation key.

4. Windows Installation

  1. Download the installer file shared via DESK.
  2. Right-click the file and select “Run as administrator”.
  3. On the license type screen, select Concurrent user license.
  4. Enter spss-lic.hku.edu.tr in the License Manager Name field.
  5. Confirm the default installation directory and complete the installation.
  6. If you are off-campus, start a FortiClient VPN connection first.
  7. Open SPSS; it will automatically connect to the license server and be ready to use.

5. macOS Installation

  1. Download the .dmg file, double-click it, and launch the installer.
  2. License Type: Concurrent user license
  3. License Manager Name: spss-lic.hku.edu.tr
  4. After completing the installation, launch SPSS from the Applications folder.

6. Troubleshooting

  • “Error 2072” / “License check failed”: The license server cannot be reached. If you are off-campus, ensure VPN is connected.
  • “No license available”: All concurrent licenses are in use. Try again in a few minutes.
  • “Failed to initialize license”: Close the application completely and relaunch it with administrator privileges.
